Studio Synopsis
Inspired by true events, City of Dreams follows Jesús, a young Mexican boy whose dreams of becoming a soccer star are shattered when he’s trafficked across the border and sold to a sweatshop making fast fashion in downtown Los Angeles. Thrust into a world of exploitation and despair, he’s forced to adhere to the grueling work schedule dictated by El Jefe, a boss who promises freedom for those who complete their quotas. Despite Jesus’s hellish existence, he finds solace in Elena, a girl who was similarly betrayed and sold into slavery. When she goes missing and another co-worker Carlito’s is severely beaten, Jesus realizes that his only hope for freedom is to make a daring escape.
Kandy Says
This film touches on the human tragedy taking place every day at our southern border. Since they have come into office, the Biden / Harris administration has lost track of over 300,000 children who entered America through our southern border. The Mexican drug cartels are trafficking young children across our border and the Mexican government has no interest in stopping this cash flow into their coffers. This is a pandemic of epic proportions, and the Biden / Harris government is more concerned about processing illegal border crosses faster than finding the children and stopping the coyotes who now control large swaths of our southern border. The film avoids the political aspect of the tragedy, but we won’t. Until there is a change in  the US government, the daily tragedy will continue.
