In the pop culture lexicon of iconic moments, there are several which stand out. Bo Derek in 10 in her gold, one-piece swimsuit with braided hair. Raquel Welch in One Million Years B.C. in her neanderthal bikini. Jane Fonda in Barbarella in her silver, metallic two-piece outfit. With those iconic film moments in mind, we set out to recreate on our cover a memorable moment from the days of music videos. Model Laurie Young volunteered as our muse. Do you recognize who (band/singer and actress/model) and the moment we recreated on our cover? Drop us your guess at kandy@kandymag.comRon
Welcome back Laurie. Is my memory correct in saying the last time we did a Kandy photo shoot together you were pregnant or was there a shoot after that?

Laurie
Lol, the very last one with Ms. Claudia, yes… pregnant... a little.

Ron
One for one on my guesses. Off to a good start. How does it feel to be gracing the cover of our 10 Year Anniversary issue?

Laurie
It’s very exciting and such an honor! I love this magazine and 10 years is such an accomplishment.

Ron
Thank you. It seems as if it was just yesterday, we were photographing you, along with Sierra Merchant and Alexa Sandberg for our 2012 Holiday issue. And weren't you recently married around then too?

Laurie
It does seem like yesterday I feel like we’re in some kind of time warp. Awww… I loved that shoot! And Sierra and Alexa are great. Alexa and I still keep in touch. I love her! I did get married in 2011. Geez going on 10 years.

Ron
Just like Kandy. Going 10 years strong.

Laurie
Coincidence, I think not! Haha

Ron
When we discussed the photo shoot concept, I laid out a specific target. Because you and I pre-date Kandy, from a working standpoint, I offered you a lot of leeway in the styling of the shoot. What was your motivation behind styling your own shoot?

Laurie
I wanted this shoot to embody a little more of my personality and where I’m from. Living by the beach my whole life, I thought a beachy chic and surf styled shoot would be the perfect fit. I am very detail oriented, so I tried to style everything, down to the rings. One set was a little more glam than surfer girl, but I really loved both looks.

Ron
You nailed your desired look. Plus, you got to work with Mario Barberio again. There seemed to be a lot of synergy between you two on the shoot. Accurate?

Laurie
Oh yeah! I love Mario! He knows how to make women look beautiful and feel comfortable on top of it. I have loved all the photographers I’ve worked with at Kandy, but I do think Mario is my fav.

Ron
I believe the shoot was a record for most photos captured. We took 1800 pics. Did you feel like you posed for 1,800 photos?

Laurie
Not at all!! That’s insane how many photos you can take. That just shows how much fun we were having. Well, I was. I can’t speak for Mario… haha! Plus, once I get going with looks and jewelry, I just want to keep styling. I really love that side of it.

Ron
I can vouch for Mario and say he was having fun. He even said so when the shoot was over. And, as you are aware, I had fun post-shoot posting on my social media the pictures Mario took of me off in the distance.

Laurie
Aww, he’s so sweet.

Ron I do not recall Mario ever thanking me for a fun shoot. I am usually the one thanking him. For me, the fun part was watching our crew member spray you down with a garden hose for a half-hour straight. HAHAHA

Laurie
Those are some great shots. I must admit you had great vision with that concept.

Ron
I have my moments.

Laurie
Lol, that was fun... until it got cold.

Ron
Cold? It is southern California and the middle of August.

Laurie
I’m a wuss with the cold. You should remember that from our NHRA track days.

Ron
It is funny you would bring up the NHRA days. As I recall, as we were shooting that last set, I commented to you that this was payback for all the grief you gave me back then.

Laurie
Yes, yes… you did, and it comes full circle!

Ron
It was worth it. We got some amazing photos out of it. Or are you supposed to say that?

Laurie
They looked so cool straight out of the camera!
